Whether you are sending clothes, shoes, personal belongings or gifts, this step-by-step guide will help you prepare your parcel for international air shipping with Blue Sky Couriers.

Step 1: Check What You Can Send
Make a list of everything you want to send. Common items may include clothes and shoes, personal belongings, household items, gifts and accessories.
Some items may be restricted or require special approval. Do not pack flammable items, perfumes, alcohol or batteries. Electronics, food, vitamins and other regulated products should be checked with our team before shipping, as acceptance and customs requirements can vary. Call 519-757-9365 if unsure.
Step 2: Choose a Strong Box
Use a sturdy corrugated cardboard box that supports the weight of your items and leaves room for cushioning without excessive empty space. If reusing a box, ensure it is strong, dry and undamaged. Remove or cover old labels and barcodes.
Step 3: Wrap and Protect Your Items
Wrap items individually so they do not rub against or damage one another.
- Clothes and soft items: Fold neatly and place in a protective bag.
- Shoes: Wrap each pair and protect other items from dirt or sharp edges.
- Fragile items: Wrap separately with bubble wrap or suitable cushioning.
- Sharp edges: Cover securely.
Place cushioning around the contents and fill empty spaces so items cannot move inside the box.
Step 4: Prepare an Accurate Contents List
Write down each item, its quantity and actual value. Be specific: for example, four cotton T-shirts, two pairs of jeans and one pair of shoes. Provide this information to our team for shipping and customs paperwork.
Step 5: Seal Your Box Securely
Close all flaps and use strong packing tape along the centre seam and edges on the top and bottom. Make sure the box closes flat and is not overfilled. Contact us before visiting to discuss packing options and charges.
Step 6: Prepare Sender and Receiver Details
Sender in Canada: Full name, phone, complete address and postal code, and email if available.
Receiver in India: Full name, phone, complete address including city, state and PIN code, and email if available. For non-document shipments, the receiver may need identity and address proof for customs clearance. Our team will advise you.
Step 7: Check Actual and Volumetric Weight
Measure the outside of the packed box: length, width and height in centimetres, and weigh it in kilograms. International shipping charges are based on the higher of actual or volumetric weight.
Volumetric weight = Length × Width × Height in cm ÷ 5,000.
For example, 50 × 40 × 30 cm = 12 kg volumetric weight. If actual weight is 10 kg, chargeable weight is 12 kg; if actual weight is 14 kg, chargeable weight is 14 kg. Chargeable weight is rounded up to the next kilogram.
